What is SOAR?
SOAR is the Thorntown Elementary school-based mentoring program. SOAR mentors provide support, opportunities for setting goals, academic assistance, and positive relationships.
Our Mission
The Thorntown Elementary school-based mentoring program, SOAR, is based upon forming a relationship between the child and the mentor focusing on both academic needs and social development of the child. Our mentors will develop a friendship with their student and within that relationship, assist in developing and achieving goals.
Our Vision
Through SOAR, students will develop assets they need to succeed. As a result, their peers will be positively impacted which will improve the overall environment at Thorntown Elementary.
Our Goals
- Improve academic confidence and performance
- Improve self-esteem and motivation
- Improve relations with peers, teachers, school staff and families
- Increase attendance and class participation
- Improve homework completion
- Reduce classroom disruptions, fighting, and other negative behavior
- Increase exploration of, or acceptance to, secondary education opportunities
